Lawn Crew Foreman – Supervisor

 

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and

Documentation Three (3) years of progressively responsible paid experience in grounds keeping, gardening, or landscape maintenance, including at least one (1) years in a leader / supervisory capacity.

Desirable Qualifications

Possession of one or more of the following is desirable:

  • A valid Louisiana Landscape Horticulturist license
  • A valid Louisiana Commercial Chemical Applicator’s license

License & Certification

  • Possession of a valid Louisiana Class D driver’s license

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Lawn Care Foreman – Supervisor is a front-line supervisory classification responsible for the day-to-day planning and supervision of Grass Hopper Lawn Care of Alexandria, LLC. An incumbent in this position exercises independent judgment and discretion in planning and deploying the appropriate level of personnel and equipment to complete assignments and projects, supervising crews and participating actively in assigned maintenance activities.

 

Typical Duties

Each position in this classification may not include all the duties listed below, nor do the examples cover all duties that may be performed.

  • Supervises and participates in the activities of an assigned work crew; trains other workers on work procedures, equipment operation, maintenance, and safety issues
  • Supervises daily inspection of vehicles and equipment
  • Administers pest and noxious weed control to ground coverage
  • Maintains and repairs hand tools and power equipment
  • Investigates new operational techniques, materials and equipment to affect improved and more economical performance
  • Provides recommendations and purchases approved materials, supplies and small equipment for day to day operation
  • Maintains time and material records pertaining to assigned work
  • Assists in the preparation and implementation of the annual budget
  • Responds to public inquiries, processes service requests, and investigates and resolves service complaints
  • Evaluates and reports on the performance of assigned personnel; investigates workers grievances
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Methods, procedures, materials, and equipment pertaining to assigned program, lawn beatification and landscape maintenance.  
  • Principles and practices of safety pertaining to area of responsibility.
  • Principles and practices of effective supervision, including motivation, evaluation, and grievance resolution

Ability to:

  • Interpret, apply, and explain pertinent Federal, State, City, and Grass Hopper rules, codes, policies, and procedures
  • Supervise train, and evaluate assigned staff
  • Interpret, apply, and explain plans, sketches, and specifications
  • Evaluate situations, identify problems, and exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Establish and maintain tactful, courteous, and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including present and potential customers
  • Work in a team-based environment and achieve common goals
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Perform arithmetic computations with accuracy
  • Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet strict deadlines

Supervision Received

Receives general supervision from the Owner of Grass Hopper Lawn Care of Alexandria, LLC.

 

Other Requirements

  • May be required to work unusual hours and to be available on an on-call basis as assigned
  • Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment

Lawn Crew Team Member – Worker

 

Education and Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D.; and
  • Documentation One (1) year of recent experience in grounds / landscape maintenance 

Desirable Qualifications  / License

  • Possession of an appropriate, valid Louisiana driver's license.

Typical Duties

  • Performs maintenance of customers property and landscaped areas
  • Assists in the pruning and spraying of trees
  • Fertilizes, waters, weeds, sprays, edges, and mows lawns and groundcovers
  • Fertilizes, waters, sprays, and prunes trees, shrubs, and groundcover
  • Sweeps and cleans
  • Rakes leaves
  • Makes repairs as needed and requested
  • Rakes and shovels debris
  • Operates trucks, tractors, power mowers, power edger’s, power shears, manual and power spray equipment, rot tillers, air compressors and pneumatic tools, pruning tools, chain saws, brush chippers, and related equipment
  • Performs heavy physical work
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Tools, equipment and procedures used in landscape construction and maintenance
  • Environmental and safety practices, procedures and standards

Ability to: 

  • Perform landscape construction and maintenance work
  • Operate landscape construction and maintenance equipment
  • Make minor equipment repairs and adjustments
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Work in a team-based environment and achieve common goals
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of work, including the general public
  • Walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Perform heavy physical labor including the lifting of up to 50 lbs. of static weight
  • Bend, stoop, reach, carry, crawl, climb, and lift as necessary to perform assigned duties
  • Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet strict deadlines

Supervision Exercised

May assist in the training of new personnel.

  • Incumbents of this classification may be subject to drug and/or alcohol testing as mandated by federal regulations
  • May be required to work odd and unusual hours on regular assignments
  • Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment
